Care Instructions

Before Your Appointment

  • Exfoliate and moisturize the area in the days/weeks leading up to your tattoo

  • Do not shave prior to the session as you will be given a clean shave at the appointment.

  • Avoid alcohol and blood thinners 24 hours before your appointment

Step 1 — Transparent Bandage (First 24–48 Hours)

Keep the bandage on for 24–48 hours. Some darkening and fluid buildup under the bandage is completely normal.

Remove the bandage early if:

  • Excess liquid (blood, plasma, sweat) pools underneath

  • Skin becomes irritated or rashy (common with eczema or sensitive skin)

While the bandage is on:

  • Avoid alcohol and exercise, as both cause fluid buildup under the bandage

Step 2 — Washing & Moisturizing (Days 1–3)

Remove the bandage under running water. Gently wash with soap and water, pat dry, then apply a thin layer of ointment 2–3 times daily (or whenever it feels dry). Keep the tattoo lightly moisturized — make sure each application fully absorbs before you reapply.

Recommended ointments:

  • Bepanthan/Bepanthol *my fave*

  • Aquaphor/A&D

Step 3 — Switching to Lotion (Weeks 1–2)

Once the top layer begins to heal, switch to an unscented body lotion applied 2–5 times daily until peeling is complete. Fine line tattoos typically peel rather than scab.

During healing, avoid:

  • Exercise (keep it minimal)

  • Alcohol (first 3 days)

  • Pools, saunas, and long showers

  • Tight clothing over the tattoo area

  • Abrasions (sleeping on it, pet contact, etc.)

Step 4 — After Healing

It's normal for the tattoo to appear slightly lighter once healed. If any lines or details peel out, touch-ups are available free of charge. To book, reply to your appointment email with a photo of your healed tattoo and I'll send available times.

Long-Term Care

  • Apply sunscreen whenever the tattoo is exposed to the sun.

  • Moisturize regularly as part of your general skincare routine. * body retinol for healed tattoos is AMAZING*

  • Avoid lacerations, burns, and severe sunburns, as these can distort the tattoo.
